What Happens to Your Facebook When You Die?

The article "Social Media is Changing How We Die and Mourn" is a really interesting read. I hadn't thought about the notion much before reading this. I've seen a few people post of their friends walls after they passed and left comments. It seems to almost act as a memorial. I am interested to see how this continues with people who have grown up with social media all their lives.

  1. Do you have the link to the article you are referring to? The subject of your blog post caught my attention and I would be interested in reading it as well :)

  2. This sounds really interesting! Someone I went to high school passed away recently and his Facebook was full of posts from friends. His wall was definitely a memorial from everyone who cared about him.

  3. This is definitely an interesting topic. I have seen walls become memorials as well, and I wonder if family members even realize it at times. I know, for example, that if I were to pass away, my family would have no idea how to access my wall! (I have a very small family...mom and dad, not married...and neither of them are on facebook!) It will be interesting to see how this plays out in years to come.

  4. I agree, this is very interesting. I also have two facebook friends that have passed away whose profiles have become memorial like pages. I think it is a nice way to remember those who have passed away in today's digital world.

  5. Definitely something to think about in today's times. Like all of the posts above me, I too have friends on Facebook that have passed and their wall serves as a memorial space. One of the passed away about three years ago and people are still posting memories. Even if direct family members may not have access other friends have and it keeps friends connected with each other as well. Technology truly is changing how our world works.
